My first FO post!

Time for my first finished object post!

This is the Hearth Hat I talked about in my last post. Here are some more details. The pattern has not been released yet so I linked to my pattern page.

This is a great hat! I really love these two color colorwork hats. Colorwork is one of the places I can really see how I’ve improved in my knitting skills from when I picked it up again. My first colorwork project was so bad – my floats were awful and too tight, and it took such a long time since I didn’t know how to hold the yarn in both hands. Now, I can make a hat like this in only a few days, and the floats are really consistent and it looks so nice!

This hat had a new-to me decrease for the crown. It’s clever, I think it’s indended to not really show the decreases too much, but I’m not sure I’m sold. I don’t mind visible decreases too much, and mind are pretty visible anyway, because of how I perform SSKs. But it’s always nice to learn new things so I’m not complaining too much!

One of the things I want to do with this blog is document what I did and how I felt while knitting these projects. There wasn’t too much happening while I made this, a lot of the knitting was actually done on the bus. Right before Thanksgiving, I moved to a new place and went from a 10 minute walk commute to a 25 minute bus ride. While the flexibility of the walk was nice, I’m really enjoying taking public transit and having a few minutes to myself to knit and listen to podcasts in the morning and at the end of the day! Patterns like this are perfect because I don’t need to be looking at the pattern every single moment. The one thing I do want to remember is that on Friday night, while my hat was still on the needles, some of the friends that I’ve met through my theater group came over for dinner and a small like housewarming party. We had an awesome time eating, drinking, chatting, and we even did some re-hashes of pieces from the past two shows because we’re giant nerds. I really love that I found such great friends from this group, they are people that really get me and I love that.

Hope everyone had a great weekend! It was super mild here in CT, I actually spent some time working on my sweater WIP out on the deck!
