Q & A and Enabling

Hello all! Just thought I’d pop in and write a quick post. Karen over at Nothing But Knit put together a Q&A so I thought I’d respond.

  • What one thing has kept you from losing it entirely the last couple of months? It can be crafting but feel free to step outside that box.
  • What meal is your absolute favorite? Be as vague or specific as you wish. Include an appetizer, dessert and drink if you wish.
  • When you think back to your childhood, what is your fondest memory? Again feel free to be vague or specific.
  • Do you plant a vegetable garden or a flower garden (or both!)? What is your favorite thing to grow? Do you ever experiment with what you grow? What was it?

I don’t know that I’ve done a great job of not completely losing it – I’ve had very down moments. I’m thankful for a lot in this time too – having a job, living with someone, the health of my family and friends, but it definitely has been hard at times. I think if I had to pick one thing it would be cooking! I personally love to cook, and always have. But during this time of stay at home order, I’ve really turned to it to get me through. It’s not so much that I’m cooking new, fancy, or different meals, though there’s been some of that for sure., It’s more that it’s fun, feels normal, it’s something I can control the outcome of, and honestly, it just takes up some time in the day!! I’ve been getting Hello Fresh boxes delivered so I have a really good variety of things to eat.

Hmm as you can probably tell by the above paragraph, I’m really not picky when it comes to food. The first thing that popped into my head was my aunt’s lasagna. She makes like a 15 lb lasagna for Christmas. It’s usually accompanied by scalloped potato’s, green beans, and various other delicious sides. Plus the joy of spending time with family.

I have fond memories of all my family vacations. My dad grew up traveling and he and my mom worked really hard to have the means to take us traveling as well. Some highlights are train trips from Connecticut to Seattle (that’s three nights on a train); canoeing and camping on the Missouri River in Montana, and road trips through Tennessee and Georgia. Looking back on it, I think my parents were INSANE – three nights on a train? With small children? And no sleeper car? But I’m so thankful for these memories.

I don’t garden. I’ve never lived on my own in a place where I can – I’ve only lived in apartments and condos. I do have a few houseplants but I certainly can’t say I have a green thumb.

That was fun, thanks Karen! In other blogger enabling news, I saw over on Katie’s blog that the Kristen Kanpur Through the Loops 2020 knitalong has just been released and well oops I bought it and bought yarn online at Webs. I figured with my success at MKALS earlier this year, what could go wrong (choosing to ignore the fact that I still have most of a knit on edging to do on my Valentines Shawl). I knit the TLL MKAL in 2017, and it’s one of my favorite shawls I’ve ever made, and is probably the one that gets the most wear. Isn’t it beautiful? And I think one of the colors being grey means it gets more wear than others. I also have found that this asymmetrical triangle shape works best for me as a shawl shape. So I chose a grey and a purple for this shawl, which is an asymmetrical triangle, and I have high hopes of another favorite.

Love Note is progressing nicely. I made it past the yoke and am making my way through the body. Knitting on size 10 needles really makes this thing FLY! According to my Excel tracking (which granted, usually changes as I kind of guess at row counts for body and sleeves), I’m already 25% done! I haven’t tried it on because I’m too lazy to fuss with adding a cable, and I’m worried about loosing the stitches on the armholes since my stoppers aren’t quite big enough, but visually it’s looking good and like it will fit. I’m really proud of all the planning and math I’ve had to do for this project! Angel approves of the progress that’s been made.

  1. Thanks for joining in! I think a lot of people are cooking/baking while at home. Having a predictable outcome is a good reason for it. My daughter loves Hello Fresh. She sends me photos of the meals she makes:)

  2. That’s great sweater progress! I have to say it again — I love the yarn combo you picked. I never would have imagined what I would use a rainbow mohair yarn for, but this is a perfect use for it!

  3. What a fun post!

Thanks for posting a picture of your previous KK KAL project – it’s gorgeous!! I’m so glad you decided to join along – seeing everyone’s progress will keep me going!
