Random Updates

I’ve been catching up on people’s posts during my work breaks today and that always makes me want to write something. I’m sitting on my balcony soaking up the sun and just wanted to share some random updates of what I’ve got going on.

Love note is done! I finished the knitting Sunday night – a sweater in 9 days! That’s definitely a record . I have for whatever reason been procrastinating on blocking it, but hoping to get some good photos this weekend.

After knitting SO MUCH I needed a bit of a break this week, so I’ve been working on finishing off the border on my Valentine’s Day shawl. When I first started working on it in early March, it felt like it was going to take so long to finish but the past few days I’ve really put a dent in it. I think before, I was trying to watch TV or read blogs while doing it, and that’s just not really possible. Since each row is so short and I need to keep track of them, it’s really more of an intensive knit. Now that I know that and can commit to that I’m able to get a lot more done. Hoping to finish this in the next week so I can start a new shawl with less guilt for the Through the Loops knitalong. The MKAL starts June 1, and I got the yarn I bought for it this week and I’m really excited about how it’s going to turn out!

Speaking of MKALS, Sarah over at Mildly Granola is organizing a Pride Sock knitalong this June. Definitely planning to join in! I’ve knit a few rainbow socks in the past (1, 2, 3) but there’s always room for more rainbows in the wardrobe :). I did a little stash diving and I don’t really have anything appropriate. My options are (from top to bottom in the pic below) a gradient set, shorty socks with leftovers and a contrast skein for toes heels and cuffs, and a rainbow feeling type skein. None are really speaking to me… so I may need to indulge in some retail therapy in the near future.

Work is going ok – we are definitely out of the weeds on the initial response to COVID when I had to take on a lot of extra work and planning. India is still in lockdown but we were able to get most of our team remote and things have relaxed. Now I’m working on thinking of and trying to plan for the long term implications of this. I’m having a really hard time focusing lately at work. Hoping that this long weekend will reset me a bit. I found out that we’re able to “leave” early tomorrow at noon, which will be really nice! They usually let us out around 2 on the workday before a holiday, but leadership recognizes everyone is stressed out and working hard so they made it noon. I’m very appreciative to work for such a supportive organization! I’m hoping to go out and do an easy hike at a nearby state park. Hopefully it won’t be too crowded!

I hope everyone is doing ok – as places start to open back up I’m worried that people will just think it means we can all go back to normal. I wish that was true but it’s not. My community theater just “postponed” the fall show. It’s absolutely the right thing to do and I’m glad they made the decision now but man, I’m gutted. I love crafting a show with my friends. Unfortunately, there’s just no way to do it safely right now. Definitely feeling ALL THE FEELS right now. If you’re in the US, I hope you enjoy a relaxing Memorial Day weekend. Do something special, but be smart and safe about it!

  1. My local theatre companies have been posting past shows online (they’re out of copyright, so it’s allowed) but nothing new is going to happen for months. I know it’s the right thing to do, since not only would the audience need to be kept safe but it would be even harder for the actors and pit musicians to stay safe, but it’s really hard to have no live theatre right now. Hang in there.

  2. Your shawl is looking great, and you have lovely yarn for the TTLs MKAL! Looking forward to seeing that – she does lovely designs 🙂 I think all of your rainbow yarns look great! But it’s true that a little more rainbow in your stash will not hurt you 🙂 Glad you are getting a little extra time off this weekend – have a good one and RELAX!

  3. I love your choice for the TTL MKAL! Congrats on finishing your sweater so quickly – I can’t wait to see how it turned out.

Thanks for writing this catchup post – I think they’re so fun!
