Unraveled Wednesday – Algal Blossoming

Happy Wednesday! Today I link up with the folks over at As Kat Knits to share our knitting and reading progress. Thanks for hosting us Kat!

I think I’ll actually share reading progress first since there are more things going on there. I finished Mexican Gothic this weekend. It was…wow. Most of the book was kind of like a slow burn, and then it escalated SUPER QUICKLY at the end. It was spooky and creepy and kind of gross. I can’t say I really enjoyed the book a whole lot, but I did really enjoy the process of reading it. I had headphones in, stayed up too late, and just got absorbed in the story. It’s been a really long time since I had done that! Since then, I also finished another book I had started reading in February, called Labyrinth Lost. I really liked this book! It was an awesome world, and a great story about finding your power and connecting to your family. Now, I’m reading Good Omens. I seem to have found a bit of reading mojo again, and I’m digging that!

On the knititng front, I’ve been 100% working on my Ranch Coat. So many of oyu said you liked the Great Western Way shawl, and I do want to get it finished so I can write the pattern up and publish it! But I had a bit of a freakout when I realized how much work I had to get done on this, and the amount of time left. I also may have signed up for a tshirt test knit…..

So, I figured I would share a project that I actually finished back in April, but it was a secret test knit for an upublished pattern. So, let me introduce you to the Algal Blossoming Shawl!

I really like this shawl! The colors are so bright and fun! Tina is one of my favorite designers. It was really cool to make – it’s nice to make a shawl where it doesn’t get bigger every row! It’s knit on the bias which makes it cool. The short row and lace sections keep it interesting.

Hope you’re all having a great week! My work has been very hectic and stressful, but I have a half day Friday and I’m off Monday, so that will be very nice!

  1. I LOVE the green in the Algal Blossoming Shawl – and what a gorgeous pattern!

I’m on the waitlist for Mexican Gothic and can’t wait to read it!!

  2. If Good Omens doesn’t get you reading again, I’m not sure what will. You can also check out the brilliant tv adaptation, with the screenplay by Neil Gaiman and the wonderful David Tennant and Michael Sheem as Crowley and Aziraphale. Enjoy your knitting too! 🙂

  3. That’s a lovely shawl! I’ve lately been thinking that the rectangular shawls might be more what I’m interested in at the moment, since the ever-increasing row length of the triangular shawls has been the biggest reason why I get mad at them. 😉

Glad to know I’m not the only one who thought Mexican Gothic got a bit gross there at the end. And I have Labyrinth Lost in my TBR, but haven’t started it yet! I’m glad it was an enjoyable read.

  4. Your shawl is gorgeous! Very summery and lovely 🙂 I LOVE Good Omens! They are two of my favorite writers, and it’s a really fun story. The mini-series did it justice, for a change. I am normally really hesitant to watch an adaptation of a book I love, but they did a really good job with it 🙂

  5. Isn’t Good Omens AMAZING!! When I first heard about it, I didn’t believe it was real because there’s no way two of my favourite writers would have worked together. But then it was real! And it was brilliant! It made me so happy.
