Variety is the Spice of Life – Yop 20/21 – Week 24

Hi everyone! It’s a bit later in the day than I usually share, but this is a Year of Projects post! Come check out our super supportive Ravelry group of folks who plan for and blog about their yearly projects.

Now that Slipstravaganza is finished, I’m a bit all over the place in terms of what I’m working on. I’ve spent most of my weekend craft time on a secret project, though it is something on my YoP list. I finished it tonight, and I’m so excited to tell you about it once I’m able to do so!

This is what I’ve been working on. The December Dandy socks are just about done, only a few more rows. I’m planning to finish these off tonight in time for a Sock it to me Monday FO post tomorrow! Last night, I just couldn’t do anything else with fingering weight yarn, so I went to totally opposite direction and busted out the Larksfoot blanket. I’ve done a few rows of this. Last up is the Catkin shawl, I said in May that if I didn’t work on it by the end of the year I’d frog it, so this is my attempt to spend some time on it. I put a row and a half on it at Knitting Club this morning.

I’m still not really sure what I’ll spend the most time on once the socks are finished. I really need to get around to starting the wedding shawl, but after finishing a shawl that ended with 900 stitches, I’m really not looking forward to a laceweight shawl which will grow slowly and have a lot of stitches by the end. But if I start it now I probablty won’t have to hurry to finish it by its due date. But that due date is still 5 months away and I have sweaters I want to knit…. Sigh I’ll figure it out eventually.

So that’s it for me this week! I hope everyone has a great week ahead.

    1. I really like it too! I think I’ve hesitated working on it because this section is just chart-y (??) enough that you really have to pay attention almost all the time, I tend to gravitate toward things that are a little more mindless or repetitive.

  1. The stitch pattern and the yarn on the socks are really pretty! I’m looking forward to seeing them all done. You have a nice variety of things to work on right now.

  2. I love this socks. The colors really make me happy. Your shawl is pretty too. I would hate to see it frogged. How much more do you have to go on it. Love the colors on the blanket. Bright and cheery.

    1. Thanks Marsha! Still a bit to go -I’m about a 1/4 of the way through this section and then there’s another. But I don’t have to finish it by the end of the year, just work on it so I’ve technically met my rule haha

  3. Sounds like you are plenty busy. The socks are indeed super cute. Love the pattern. I totally get it about how many stitches it takes to make fingering weight shawls. But for me I love the lightness of fingering weight items. Sounds like a busy end to the year.

  4. I love the sock yarn and pattern, very pretty. I was thinking about your spreadsheets and wondered whether it is possible to calculate how many stitches are in the lace weight shawl and then divide that by how many weeks or months and just aim to chip away at it over the period. It will be a tough project to do all in one go. I haven’t knit anything lace weight yet, but I get frustrated with how slow fingering weight can be.

  5. Good luck wit hthe Catkin shawl (the socks look great, seriously, especially with this yarn). Have you decided on a shawl pattern yet? What are you going to make?

  6. Your socks are great! Love the pattern and yarn. Is the Larksfoot crocheted? Very pretty whichever. I love the striped shawl and I hope your secret sewing project gets done in plenty of time! Maybe you could put each project on slips of paper and do a drawing to determine what to work on.

    1. Thanks so much Sandra! I did finish my secret project yesterday, so that’s good. Yes, the Larksfoot is crochet – I don’t do much crochet but it’s sometimes a nice break. Doing a drawing sounds fun, I’ll consider that

  7. I love the socks! I need to cast on a new pair, it feels weird having no socks on the needles right now. I know what you mean about needing to switch yarn weight, though. That’s one of the best reasons to have multiple projects on the go at once, I think.
