December WIP Wrap-Up – YOP 20/20 Week 27

Hello everyone! I took a couple week break from blogging there for the holidays. I hope everyone had a nice relaxing time and was able to find some moments of joy at the end of this challenging year. I’ve actually got a lot to catch up on, but I guess I’ll start by doing a December wrap up. Since it’s Sunday, I’ll include it as part of my Year of Projects (Rav link) posts.

Lots of great progress in December, especially getting Slipstravaganza off the needles! I also made a ton of progress on my Druid circle sweater (hoping to maybe get that cast off this week?) and enough progress on my Caspain to ensure that I won’t frog it per the rule I gave myself. I will frog the Danzig shawl this week, I didn’t make any progress on it and I want to hold myself to what I said in May. After finishing Slipstravaganza, I tried to work on multiple things at once, but honestly I found that a bit difficult. While I love the actual act of knitting, I also really like seeing significant progress, so this usually just means I’ll knit on one thing until it’s done.

Since this is a Year of Projects post, I will say that I did a good amount of sewing in December as well! The big project was an apron I gave my sister for Christmas, and I have a post planned for that tomorrow :). I’ve also got more sewing projects in the works so I’m looking forward to continue sharing my sewing journey.

I had a lovely few weeks around the holidays. My family Zoomed a lot on Chriustmas Eve and Christmas, and I was able to do some nice cooking – my quiche for Christmas morning and scalloped potatoes to supplement my aunt’s take out lasagana were both delicious. I missed seeing family in person, but also cherished some nice alone time with my sweater and basketball games. I was able to see some friends outside the past few days, and I loved getting to do that (though I still don’t quite think I’ve warmed up from our four hour open door garage chat last night).

Happy New Year!

  1. Sounds like you need a portable firepit for your garage chats. My daughter knows how much I love knitting by the fire so she gave me a tabletop firepit to use in Florida (uses sterno can but I’m using a candle with a campfire scent).

Jeez, 96,000 stitches… in one month…. that’s 3200 a day every day. WOW. Yeah, not in your league!! Plus sewing!!! You are amazing!!!

  2. I need to take stock and see what I’ve done and not done. You’ve made lots of progress and your projects are so lovely. I want to get to knitting a sweater. I love the percentages you use for how far you are on a project. I need to figure out how to do that and then schedule so much over a certain amount of time so I can calculate when I might finish. You’re on a roll! You go girl!

  3. Nice to catch your update. I was thankful for skype dinner dates with my son. I had hoped it could come home for Christmas, but Covid in both our provinces put an end to that idea. I am like you and tend to like to finish one project before diving into another. I usually have two on the go – one easy for Netflix watching, and a harder one that needs more attention but where I learn something new.

  4. I’m not sure I was following you back in May. Is your rule to frog items that hadn’t made progress betweeen May and December? I have a brioche scarf that fits that criteria, I got to the cable bit and panicked 😂. Perhaps I will give it another chance and frog it by my birthday in June if I’m still scared of it. Your Christmas sounds peaceful. Happy new year.

    1. It’s not a rule I have every May or anything like that haha – I just pulled out all my UFOs – I had over 20 and frogged some but also noted a few that i didn’t really want to frog but also hadn’t worked on in years

  5. I have a sweater that I’ve been procrastinating on making a decision about for a year, and I haven’t worked on it since 2013!! I think its time to admit it won’t fit and I’ll never finish it. I think I need to employ your work it or frog it mentality!

Also, I LOVE your mitered square blanket!!

  6. Happy new year, I’m glad you had a restful holiday. You have made such great progress, I had a little chuckle when I thought you were discussing your rice cooking!

  7. I’ve seen some cute aprons around on IG. Apron sewing looks fun. Mmm, scalloped potatoes and quiche? My kind of foods. I haven’t made scalloped spuds/potatoes au gratin yet; that is something I need to try.
