February WIP Wrapup – YoP 20/21 – Week 35

It’s been a while since a YoP post so let’s share February knitting progress, shall we? Yes, it’s kind of a day late for YoP but since I needed a monthly update post anyway… Since it’s been a while, YoP is a Ravelry group of bloggers who plan their projects for the year and blog about it. It’s a super supportive group of folks and I feel bad that I haven’t been as engaged the past month or so. You can find my plans, which have gone a bit off the rails recently, here.

Now that there’s only 4 of them, it doesn’t feel as annoying to take them all out for a picture!

Blanket squares completed: 6

New blanket square count/ %: 90 – 19%

Blanket as of 3/1

Total Stitches in February: 84,568

Omg, 4 WIPs/UFOs!??!?! And I even met my monthly scrap blanket goal? Who even am I lol? I’m really happy with how much I’ve worked down my long term projects this year. It’s been a goal of mine and I’m proud of myself for actually meeting it! Now, I don’t see myself being a truly monogamous knitter, especially once things like commuting and theater and travel start happening again, I’ll probably keep at least an easy travel project and a more complex project going at any one time, but keeping the total amount of on the needles projects at around 5 feels pretty sustainable for me. We’ll see how long that lasts haha!!

Are you surprised to see Catkin off the list? Yeah, me too! When I finished my hats at the end of last week, I needed something to occupy my knitting time until today, and I was like, hey, let’s give Catkin some love. It’s my oldest active WIP, and I wasn’t actually too far from the end. I didn’t necessarily expect to finish it before the end of the month, but once I realized that was a possibility I just zoomed through it. FO post coming sometime this week!

For March, my knitting will be primarily focused on a new test knit I’ll be working on. I should be getting the pattern today! This is a secret test, but I can tell you that it is big (I bought 750 grams of yarn), complex, and I expect it to take up most, if not all, of my knitting time for the next two months. It’s got to be blocked and photographed by 4/20, and honestly I’m a little worried about that happening! So I don’t expect much progress in other places.

That brings me to the blog – it may be a little boring around here, as I literally am not supposed to share anything – not colors, gauge swatches, sneak peaks, whatever about this project until about 2 weeks from the release date. But I have the idea to write some posts about projects I made and really loved, but completed prior to having the blog, so there might be some posts coming from that. What are you working on in March?

  1. Great progress made in February. I love the yellow and black socks – they remind me of some I made my son a year ago – he wanted socks that were the colour of new york taxis! Your sock yarn blanket is really coming along. I made one years ago for our king size bed – over 1000 squares. I love sleeping under it every night.

    1. The socks are actually a very dark teal, it’s weird lighting but taxi socks sounds awesome!
Omg 1000 squares?!? I’m thinking I can get by with 480 so that’s my initial goal haha

  2. Glad to see you post again. Missed you. Geez, that’s like 3000 stitches a day!!! What I piker I am with my goal of 1000 per day and I’m retired!! Loving those “fraternal??” yellow and black socks. How fun! Test knit might be a future goal. I’m tickled with my sample knit and hope it’s good enough to earn me a future sample knit. Like as in training for a marathon my next goal (2022) is simply to complete a KAL so that I can see if I can knit an item on a timetable.

    1. Thanks! I missed everyone too – hope to be back more consistently now.
Test knitting is so fun, but yes, you do have to be aware of the deadline! It can sometimes be a bit stressful but pandemic life has been great for that 😀 1500 per day is about my “normal,” it’s definitely impacted by a few crazy weekend days or days off where I literally do nothing but knit.

  3. WOW! You are one productive lady, go you!!
I have a couple projects that I need to either finish or rip out, and I admire you for taking the plunge and ripping out an old WIP. I am excited to see what you have coming up the pipeline, the mystery project is intriguing me.

  4. Congrats on whittling down your WIP pile. The long term test knit sounds so exciting. It will keep me coming back to watch for the grand reveal. The blanket looks so good. Lots of memories in it.

  5. Well done on finishing all those projects in one month. I almost counted how many stitches I did yesterday, but then worried I’d start getting competitive so didn’t. I love the idea of you sharing some previous pre-blog FOs. As those items will have been used more it seems a good opportunity to share how they’ve lasted, whether you wear it etc, I have a little shawl scarf thing I never wear and was thinking of frogging and using the yarn for socks. It’s a bit harsh on my neck but I know it’s fine for socks. So yarn or project reviews are always of interest.

    1. Lol! It’s definitely not a competition, I’m just a nerd who loves data 😀
Ok good to know! I do like the idea of sharing how I have continued to use the item so I’ll be sure to do that

  6. WOOT! You truly made a dent, congratulations! I hope you’re duly proud of yourself!! I’m looking forward to the blog posts, I really love your writing style (I think I’ve said that before), so whatever you feel fit to share, that’s great! 🙂

I’m still working on some stuff for me, but I MIGHT start a cardigan! (woo-hoo!)

      1. (Just to be clear, I really REALLY didn’t mean this ironically or sarcastically!!) You blog REALLY is great. 🙂

  7. How exciting- a mystery project. Five on the go seems a lot, but adds variety for you. Love the blanket. I am very close to the end of a crochet blanket so I think I will foucs on that for a bit this month.

  8. Good for you getting your WIP/UFO count down so low! That is wonderful 🙂 Good idea blogging about past projects while you are working on the secret new one. I am working on my Water Shawl, a technique project for the Confident Knitting club, and probably a few other things 🙂

  9. Wow! You are a knitting fool, girl! Very impressive. Don’t worry, I don’t think you have to worry about your blog being boring. I always enjoy your posts.

  10. Well done on getting through that pile! The test knit sounds intriguing and whatever you want to talk about is good by me!
