Wavelength Sweater and Monkey Socks – Unraveled Wednesday 10/13/21

Happy Wednesday everyone! Today I’m checking in with the folks over at As Kat Knits to share knitting and reading progress. It’s been a couple of weeks since I’ve done one of these, so I’ve got a good amount of reading to share!

On the knitting front, I was trying to decide what to do since I finished the Shawlography MKAL so early. I do plan to do that for each of the weeks – knit a lot on the weekend after it’s been released, but and then have the week to work on other things. We’ll see this week though, because I’m going up to Vermont Friday night to hang with my friends (and I’m driving), and then Rhinebeck is Sunday. I am a passenger for Rhinebeck, but I’m not sure I want to drag the whole thing with me. Also, I think Stephen said this clue is more stitches so I might not finish it over the weekend. Anyway, I spent most of Sunday and Monday’s knitting time working on my reverse Monkey socks, and actually finished the first one Monday night. Instead of casting on the second sock, I decided to cast on a sweater, because why not. I had been meaning to make the Wavelength for a while, and it feels like it’s been a bit of time since I made a sweater. I mean I know I finished my Rhinebeck sweater in July and made a crop top in August but… All the fall weather lately has me wanting more knitwear so here we go.

Since last checking in on my reading, I have finished two books I really enjoyed! The Mystery of Mrs Christie and The Only Woman in the Room, both by Marie Benedict. And when looking up those links, I realized that a book I read earlier this year, The Other Einstein is by the same author. I liked these two a bit better than The Other Einstein. I’m a huge Agatha Christie fan, so I enjoyed diving into that world and the way the story was constructed. The Only Woman in the Room started a little slowly, but by the end I was just fascinated by the person/ character of Hedy Lamar. Benedict has a couple more of these historical fiction books, and I’ll need to check those out.

I’m still working through All In, the Billie Jean King autobiography. In addition, I started The Address by Fiona Davis. I read another book by Davis that I really liked a few years ago, and when this one popped up on my Libby holds I decided to start. I really like the premise but right now I’m at a point where both main characters have made poor decisions and I think I need to get through that before truly enjoying it.

Hope everyone is having a great week! What are you working on and reading?

  1. I hope the weather cooperates for Rhinebeck and you have a great time! It’s such a beautiful time of year in the Northeast. I’m on a garment kick too, so I love that you started a sweater and it’s going to be a beauty. I’ve just started a book on CS Lewis that I realized I need to get read and reviewed by the end of the week, so that’s taken priority over a couple others that I started but are on hold for a bit. So many good things to read out there!

  2. I love the colors you picked for Wavelength! That’s going to be really pretty. And your Monkey sock looks great! I love the toe and cuff contrast color.

I want to cast on a new shawl (Roam by Chasing Rabbits) and so I’m trying really hard to get some of my existing WIPs finished so I can cast on without guilt. And I’m reading (mostly) slightly spooky books for Halloween month—currently Coraline by Neil Gaiman.

    1. Thank you! I meant to do the contrast for the heel too but then full on forgot when I started lol
Ooh yea that’s such a cool pattern! And Coraline is the perfect spooky book- a few years ago I went to a Halloween party and my friend had a perfect Coraline costume

  3. I hope you have a wonderful time at Rhinebeck. I looked the other day at some people’s versions of the shawl that look ahead of where I last saw your version and it doesn’t look like good travel knitting…well not for me, as soon as I add another colour to my project bag those balls of yarn love to tie themselves in knots when I’m not looking lol
