Vacation Prep!

Hello lovely people! I’m excited to share an update today on what I’m bringing on my vacation. Because, unlike some vacations, I’m going to have a LOT of knitting time. I’m taking the train from here in Seattle to San Francisco (which is about 24 hours) and then, after a few days in the city, the train from San Francisco to Denver (about 36 hours). I’m so excited to have another overnight train trip! The last time I did one was 2019 in Canada, which was AMAZING and I can’t wait to be back enjoying full days of knitting and watching the world go by.

The projects currently on my needles are all tops/vests, and two of the three are almost done, so I didn’t want to lug a project that big around, so we landed on 3 projects to work on which take a up a reasonable amount of space. Clockwise from the top in the image above, I’m going to use the speckled skein to make a pair of socks for myself. Haven’t exactly decided which pair, but it will be a pattern like the Hermione’s Everyday socks or my self created zig zag cable, something that I have fully memorized. This will be my pure mindless knit. The pink skein will be used for a pair of Maj Socks for my cousin. She has small feet, so I’m actually thinking I might be able to finish these on the trip! And then the project I’m most excited about, but might actually work on the least, is those three skeins to make a Butterfly Shawl! I bought the pattern and yarn in 2018, it’s made it through two moves, and it’s time to actually make this thing. I’ve been needing a more complex project and I think this will be perfect. But I may work on it a little less on the trip because of that complexity. On the train, especially to Denver, I like to sit and watch the scenery so may focus on the less detailed socks.

I allllllmost finished my Cabana cardigan but because of the comparative slowness of twisted rib flat, needing to pack for vacation and clean my house, and having torn out the beginnings of the collar last night after some confusion and pattern errors, I didn’t get there. But it will be a very quick finish once I return and I can’t wait to wear it this summer!

I look forward to sharing all my knitting adventures from the trip! I’ve definitely got some yarn hops planned as well 😀
