Confessions of an Unknown Knitter

I recently came across an acquaintance’s blog (mostly knitting related content) and it got me thinking about writing about knitting again. I don’t do a lot of writing, I’m not really good at it. I always feel clunky and awkward and trite. But man, something about reading those just really got me going. I tried to do this a while back, to document my ventures into knitting, which was a relatively new hobby at the time. But then I transitioned into YouTube podcast land, and I guess kind of stopped. I’m really not good at following through with things, or finishing what I start. Honestly, it’s a wonder I finish any knitting projects at all.

A lot of this is just screaming into the void, I know I’m not a “popular” knitter and probably no one will read these anyway. But honestly, I kind of like that. My Instagram is a lot of real life friends and family, and I don’t want to bore them with lots of knitting content. At the same time, I don’t feel like I have enough content to really have a knitting dedicated Instagram, or continue with the podcast. I’ve transitioned to being a mostly monogamous knitter, with one big project I work on at home and one “to-go” project I take with me places, usually a pair of socks. I also go long stretches of just not knitting at all. I just don’t knit enough to make it worth it. I’m also debating whether or not to share much about this blog on my Instagram. On the one hand, it would be nice to have someone read these ramblings. On the other, I would kind of enjoy having a little corner of my brain on the internet that my mom doesn’t have access to.

So here’s what I want this space to be.  I want it to be a reminder of how knitting makes me feel and connects to my life.  I’ll talk about the projects I finish and discuss what I was thinking and feeling while I made them.  And not just the good, cushy feelings.  Sometimes knitting is hard and sometimes life is hard (sorta spoiler alert to my first FO post maybe??).  I also want to work on taking nicer photos of finished and in-progress objects, so I hope posts will be photo heavy.

Will this venture last?  Probably not.  But it’s sure fun to think about.

  1. Hi! If you do stick around, and I hope you will, you will love this supportive blogging community. I don’t promote my blog on Facebook, but I share the link on my IG profile since I have a lot of knitting connections there.

  2. Hey there! First of all, thank you so much for following me! I was surprised that you just started again – and I am curious what you are going to write about!! 🙂 I’m really looking forward to reading your posts – woot! 🙂

  3. I know how you feel Kath. I don’t crank out the knitting and that impacts my blogging content for sure. But I still blog regardless because it is good for me and I really enjoy it. Don’t worry. There are enough of us out there who love your content no matter what. Keep being YOU.
