Sharing a few quick updates in an Unraveled Wednesday post. Unraveled Wednesday is for readers and crafters to share those updates. Thanks to Kat for hosting us.
Recently I’ve been spending a lot of time working on my dragonfly cross stitch. I’m really enjoying the repetitive in and out of making those little x’s. Getting this done before I leave is a priority, and I think it’s going to be possible. I’ve been trying to take a picture each day I work on it so I can see progress. My plan is generally to go a color at a time, though I had to move around a little to reduce the amount of counting needed when starting new shapes. I still have several leaves I need to add, but I’m trying to set things up so that I can end with the colors that have less stitches so I can fly through to the end. It’s definitely getting there! A little part of me hopes that my friend doesn’t want this to give to his mom anymore, since mom’s birthday was the end of August. It’s really gorgeous and I wouldn’t be mad about keeping it. 🤣

I’ve put in a few rows on my Mesotherm socks since I last blogged, but really my “I want to look at a pattern” time has been spent on the cross stitch. I tend to like a more mindless knit that I don’t have to look at which I can work on while reading, listening to work meetings, or waiting for Excel to chug through formulas (sadly there’s way too much that last one for my liking). So, I started another Ripple Bralette. I’ve made one of these before, and two of the DK weight versions. My fingering weight one has never fit, I made the body too short. So I’m looking forward to trying this one again. Even though I know it will take longer than I want to get through, I’m committed to making it long enough!! I’m using some leftovers of random sock yarn that I unearthed when going through my stash, so more colors will be added as we go along. One of the things my friends encouraged me to do when cleaning out yarn was embrace the extra scraps, which I tend not to do because I like things to be consistent. So this will be a good practice of that.
I’m continuing my read through of Jeff Pearlman books. I still enjoy his writing style and I find reading non fiction about something more trivial like sports perfect for my brain right now. Since I last blogged, I finished Football for A Buck, which is about a defunct football league in the mid-80s. Our president elect is actually a “main character” in that book, and while it’s history from the mid 80s, a lot of what he did then applies to today. He basically took over the league and tried to mold it to what he wanted, destroying it in the process. So that’s… fun. I’ve also read The Bad Guys Won (about the 1986 NY Mets), Love Me, Hate Me (about Barry Bonds), and am currently working on The Rocket that Fell To Earth (about Roger Clemens). Baseball is definitely the sport I follow the least, so these have been interesting to learn more about something I know less about. Pearlman started his career as a baseball writer, so it’s no surprise that these earlier books focus on that sport. All three of these focus on decidedly imperfect men, and it’s interesting to consider the balance between athletic talent and real life likeability.
Here’s a cute photo of the kitties cuddling with me the other day for some positive vibes to close us out!
