FO Friday – Vitamina Tee

Time to show off my latest top! This is the Vitamina Tee by Julie Knits in Paris. For the multicolor, I used some yarn I picked up at Rhinebeck in ’23, and the blue is Sparkle Fingering in the colorway “Pike” from my fave shop, Yarn Dragon.

This was a really fun knit! I got most of it done in about a month and a half, but then it took a break for a bit and I finished it up in about a week. The slip stitch colorwork kept it just interesting enough while still being very meditative. I was a little worried about the multicolored being a little too busy, but i think it balances it out with the blue just enough. I think the length is absolutely perfect and I love the bold color at the top.

I like the look of the square top, however I don’t think this exact ratio fits well on my body. Because my waist is bigger than my chest, the size I chose has a pretty wide neckline, making it feel like it’s going to fall off my shoulders. Also doesn’t help that I have pretty round shoulders. With the top I’m working on now, I think I’ll learn from this and plan for a smaller neckline in the size I chose.

Since the blue from Yarn Dragon is so heavily featured here, figured I’d take a sec to just appreciate that shop, the owner Jonathan, and his sister Karen for being awesome. I’ve been going to their weekly knitting groups pretty often, and it’s just a great group of people! The yarn is amazing but so is the community. The store started with Jonathan selling at the craft tables in Pike Place Market, and then last year he opened up a shop in the basement. They just recently opened up a factory store, where they also do the dying and have the knitting machines for the knitwear they sell. I give a little tour in this TikTok!

The folks at @Yarn Dragon LLC are awesome and I’m so glad I stopped by to visit during the grand opening of the new store! An awesome place for yarn fanatics in Seattle #knitting #handdyedyarn #seattle #localbusiness #localyarnstore

  3. Oh, I love the top very, very much! I think it looks fantastic on you!! I say wear it with joy!! And a huge thank you for introducing me to Yarn Dragon!! What brilliant colors are in that video! I hope you are having a fantastic weekend! XO

  4. It looks fantastic! Just beautiful. I’m going to go favorite it now. I’m on the lookout for patterns that let me use one of my one skein wonders with a skein of solid. Could you pick up stitches and add some more stripes at the neck to make it less open?

  5. Back in the late 1970s I knit a twinset with a square neckline in a gorgeous cashmere yarn – those were the days! I still love to see a square neck. Like you, I have narrow shoulders and necklines are often a source of contention, not to mention sleeve heads that sit a couple of inches out from my actual shoulder. It’s one of the reasons I like to knit my garments – best way to get a decent fit, on the odd occasions where we let commonsense rule and don’t give in to the siren song of the latest wide-necked beauty we see in our pattern search.

  6. Your new top is beautiful! Lovely work, and it looks great on you!
