Unraveled Wednesday – 9/30/26

Happy Wednesday and happy fall! It’s been a while so I figured I’d catch up with the rest of the folks sharing their reading and knitting progress at AsKatKnits. Thanks for hosting Kat!

I’m currently working primarily on a pair of Tubescent Socks by Carissa Browning. This sock has a unique gusset pattern that gives more of a heel shaping then a straight tube sock without needing to interrupt the color pattern on striped or gradient yarns. I’m really enjoying this pattern, though I read the pattern wrong and started the gusset too late, so I’ve done a smaller number of decreases. I know I should have torn back, but this is already the second time I’ve started these (used too big of a needle the first time and didn’t like the gauge) and I was kind of over it. I’ve been trying the socks on and I think the fit will still be ok. I absolutely love knitting with this Uneek sock yarn and plan to make these as tall as they can be.

Today is probably my last day working on these for a bit though, as the WestKnits MKAL starts tomorrow! This will be my 7th year in a row participating! I considered not doing it when I saw that it required 8 50 g colors as I was hoping to pull from stash, but I was able to make it work! This is mostly stash, including a few leftovers from other projects. I only bought two colors (the brown and the yellow) and only the yellow is a full 100g skein. I’m excited to dive in to another fun project.

I’ve done a good amount of reading over the past few weeks, but here are some highlights.

Book cover of Cursebreakers by Madeline Nakamura

This is what I’m currently reading – it’s the first in what is currently a duology about a magician who suffers from an in-world version of bipolar disorder and a conspiracy that is causing unusual symptoms which bring up trauma for the MC. So far it’s really interesting and I’m enjoying it, though I’m less than 20% in.

Book cover of Detective Aunty by Uzma Jalaluddin.

Detective Aunty was the book that got me back into reading after a brief break. It was a cute story about an Indian-Canadian mother who travels back to Toronto to help solve a mystery involving her daughter.

I had wanted to read Somewhere Beyond the Sea, and so I re-read The House in the Cerulean Sea recently as well. Both of these books are so good and are great if you want an emotional happy cry. I was full on sobbing at the end of Somewhere Beyond the Sea.

I recently got this little stand and page turner so I can read my Kindle more easily on the couch, and bonus the containers meant for snacks, drinks, or your phone work perfectly for two at a time sock knitting!
