Knitting and Sewing and Cross Stitching, Oh My! – YOP 21/22 – Week 14

Happy Sunday! Checking in with a Year of Projects post today. Year of Projects is a group of bloggers who plans their projects for the year and then blogs about their progress weekly, usually on Sundays. You can find my list for the year here.

I have so much progress to share on various things this week! I’m currently on vacation, and it’s been rainy today and yesterday, so it’s perfect weather for crafting!

Let’s start with knitting, that’s actually the most boring progress. I am almost done with the Ace Pride socks, I cast off the tube last night, and then cut them in half this morning and so far have one toe done. Hoping to finish these off today, or maybe tomorrow if I get distracted by other things today.

In cross stitch land, I did finish my butterfly cross stitch before I left! I really like this, though there were little tiny things about the pattern that annoyed me by the end, just in how the designer lined up the triangles. I’m trying to decide if I want to do something outside of the butterfly, I have enough Aida to do so, and I feel weird kind of wasting all that extra fabric. I’m also working slowly but surely on my tulips cross stitch, and I’m maybe about 1/2 way done with the first chart. I’m really glad I brought this with me on the trip, it’s been a great thing to do at night. I’m not sure how much it will get worked on once I get home with the WestKnits MKAL starting.

Finally, sewing! I did make my for real Rheinbeck dress over the past two days. I took a bunch of footage, because I’ve been watching so many sewing YouTube videos lately, so I’ll have more to share about this once I get around to putting that all together. But for now I’ll say that I’m really happy with it, and the small changes I made. I really liked comparing a picture of the first to the second one (it’s the same pattern) and seeing the slightly better fit and shorter length.

Phew! That’s it for me this week. It will continue to be rainy the next two days of my trip, so lots more progress I think. I did bring another skein of sock yarn which I might start, and there’s also fabric here to sew a jumpsuit. That one might be too complicated though, so I might cut out pattern pieces and fabric, with no really commitment to making that while I’m here.

Hope you all have a great week! Have you been working on as many different things as I have, or have you been more monogamous in your crafting?

  1. Glad you are enjoying your vacation and getting to do a variety of crafting. Your socks are perfect to get to wear in October. I really like your dress layered with the sweater. That’s something I still need to work on – how to layer.

  2. Your vacation sounds wonderful. Lots rain = lots of crafting. Pretty purple on this socks. Your butterfly would make a cute pillow. You have accomplished quite a bit in the tulips too. Your dress turned out nice. The high/low hem is a good thing for those of us who bend over to look at things.

  3. Ooh I love your purple socks. Farmgirl Sam makes little Christmas ornaments with small pieces of Aida fabric so perhaps with any trimming you could try that? Or do you mean add something to join the butterfly? Could your write something maybe? Well done on making a dress whilst away, you seem to really be enjoying sewing now which is great.

  4. Nice job on the dress. It looks great on you! I’ve been monogamous with my knitting just because I’ve been traveling, and knitting is my stress relief.

  5. Great progress! I haven’t been at ALL monogamous with my crafting, I’ve got way too many knitting projects OTN as well as a crocheted blanket and a brand-new cross stitch project. Plus I plan to start spinning again this month. I’ve been a bit scattered craft-wise lately.

  6. What a cozy vacation you’re having, Are those machine knitted tube socks? I’ve never heard of cutting them in half except on those machines, You’ve got my curiosity up! They are so pretty in that yarn. Your cross stitch is lovely too. I am a multi-crafter too. I’d probably have a lot more finishes if I would be more monogamous. It’s fun to have so many interests though. Your dresses are so cute. I hope your vacation was everything you hoped it would be!

    1. So I knit those socks afterthought everything, which means I just knit a giant tube with ribbing at both ends and then cut them in half, put in toes, and then heels. It’s nice to just have true take anywhere socks

  7. What a great dress! It’ll be great for Rhinebeck. You can layer it if it’s cool or where is as is if the weather is nicer.
