Exciting News! Year Of Projects ’24/ ’25 Week 2

Only a few days late but I didn’t want to stop blogging weekly for YoP after only 1 week lol. Year of Projects is a Ravelry group of bloggers who share a plan for their projects for a year, and then blog weekly about it. My plan is fairly broad because I get way too distracted by shiny new projects.

No, the exciting news isn’t that I finished one of my lipstick lesbian socks. I was actually hoping to have both done by Sunday, I saw my friend Saturday night. But I ended up not knitting as much as I wanted to Friday & Saturday. I’m still not done with both because I shifted to working on the WestKnits MKAL. That’s coming along really well, I LOVE the colors I chose. This clue had a Brioche option, which is always super fun and squishy. I won’t quite finish this clue by tomorrow morning, and will probably continue to fall behind a little bit more, as we have rehearsal the next two nights, then load in and building Friday night and Saturday, and then we dive into tech week and open Friday! So knitting time is more limited.

Ok, ok, time for the exciting news. At the end of this year, I will be moving to…. Seattle!

I found out THIS AFTERNOON that this is official. Work approved my relocation request. I’m so so so excited! This has been in the works for a while, we went out there for my cousin’s wedding this August, and I really started to plan it out. I thought about doing this when we were out there in 2022, but my job at the time wasn’t as conducive to working outside of Hartford. But in the job I’ve been in for the past year, I’m the only one who does my job, and everyone else on my team is across the country. So the plan is to go out there right after Christmas, and then live in a furnished apartment I found for four months. This is mostly to make sure I can survive the winter since it’s more dark and grey than I’m used to, and I’ve only been in the summer. I’ve got cousins out there and I’m so excited to see more of them as well as exploring the city. I’m really a city girl at heart. So yeah, that’s super fun and exciting!

Anyone have any cross country moving tips?

  1. Great photo! I know some other folks in CT who snapped pics, and we had visibility here in Ohio, too (though I missed it). Congrats on the move approval – I hope it works out well for you. My niece and her husband moved from Boston to Seattle a few years ago, but they moved back after they realized she was suffering emotionally there. I can ask her for tips on a transcontinental move, if you’d like since they did it twice. 💞

    1. I’m glad they figured out what worked best for them! Yes I’ll take any advice they’ve got! 💕

  2. OMG!!! That’s a big move!! How wonderful that you have family in the area. That will definitely help the transition. My friend’s daughter lives there. She is in the Contemporary Dance group. Amazing to still have a career in dance in her early 30s. She loves it there. Hugh congratulations!!!

    1. That’s awesome! I love dance so I will have to check her group out.

  3. Congrats on the move! How exciting!

  4. Wow! That is such big news! What an adventure. I can’t wait to follow along!

  5. My husband, and I, moved from Fort Lauderdale, FL to the Bay Area in CA in April of 2014. We used movers to transport our stuff, and then we drove cross country in our SUV with two cats and two little dogs in the back. If you’re using a moving company, get rid of as much weight as you can! They give you an estimate; however, charge by the weight of all your items on the truck. We probably could’ve bought all new furniture with what we paid to the movers but had sentimental items.

I got rid of all but the most important cookbooks and books, as well as purged my closet and dresser. It was a good time to take stock of what I really needed to keep. I also recommend starting as soon as you can. It takes longer than you think.

If you drive yourself, make sure you have all the essentials that will make the new place feel like home when you arrive. I brought sheets, an air mattress, pillows, several changes of clothes, a laptop, my Kindle, and knitting/crochet projects, and toiletries/bath towels. I wish I would’ve brought our hot water kettle and coffee pot, too! It was rough going out for caffeine each morning until our belongings showed up three days after we arrived. Plus, those items were in the very last box I unpacked for the kitchen. 😀

    1. This is very helpful! Thank you so much!

  6. Well that’s very exciting. Best of luck with the move and the planning for it. It’s nearly 20 years since I moved from England to Scotland so I’ve probably not got many tips, but whenever I move house I always make sure the first thing that is done in the new house is to make the bed! Then you can do all the other stuff until you are ready to drop and when you are ready your bed is ready to flop into. Marilee moved Alaska to Wisconsin so she may have some good tips for you if you contacted her. I think they sold a lot and re-bought stuff as it was cheaper than moving…that may not be the case for your trip.

  7. That is so exciting! Congratulations!
