Making Progress – Year of Projects ’24-’25 – Week 6

It’s time for a Year of Projects post! YoP is a Ravelry group of bloggers who share a plan for their projects for a year, and then blog weekly about it. You can see my plan here . In spite of the disappointing week in American politics, I’ve made great progress on my crafting goals. There’s something really nice about making beautiful things in scary times and I’m grateful I have the ability to do that.

In addition to finishing my Go Go Dynamo earlier in the week, today I finished what I call my “Lipstick Lesbian” socks! I call them that because the colorway feels like a sentient lesbian flag just barfed all over some yarn. What a weird image but it makes sense to me. It’s also a bit of an inside joke with the friend that these are for. The yarn is Sinful Yarns Fingering, in the colorway “Shake It Off.” The pattern is something I have made up, it’s a simple elongated stitch cable going in reverse directions for each sock, and I think it makes variegated yarns pop. See also my “Love Hypothesis” and “2020 Pride” socks. It’s got enough interest to keep me working on them, but I don’t need to look at a pattern.

Speaking of needing to look at a pattern, I already cast on my next pair of socks. I brought these with me to a bar last night that my friends went to after seeing a show, and worked on them sitting at a bakery and brewery today. These are the Mesotherm Socks by Carolyn Lisle, and I’ve knit these once before. It’s a gorgeous two color cable pattern, and I’m using some leftovers from other socks I’ve made.

The other big thing I crossed off my YoP list this week was starting to organize my craft supplies! When I wrote my list, I knew I was going to Seattle but you all didn’t yet because it wasn’t official, so that’s what I had in mind when I included organizing/ cleaning out craft stuff on my list. On Thursday, Leah and Kristen came over and they helped me go through my stash and decide what to keep and donate. I slimmed down my stash by about a third (much of which they took home with them), pulled some yarn to take with me to Seattle/ work on now, and packed everything else up in vacuum bags to store until May. I still have all my notions and other craft stuff to get through, but this was a big step.

So there you go! This week I’m probably going to spend a lot of my crafting time on my dragonfly cross stitch, I really should have finished this by the end of August but life got in the way. I’ve absolutely got it get it done before I leave for Seattle at the end of the year.

I hope y’all have a good week!

  1. OMG, that’s a lot of yarn (says the woman with 6 years of yarn projects). Congrats on being to go through it and organize it. Yum, that looks like a hazy IPA, my favorite. Or it could be a wheat beer. Best wishes on your move. I really can’t imagine going through all my stuff for a move.

    1. Haha I started knitting 10 years ago so I’ve got a lot! I’m trying to be much better about buying yarn without plans for it because this will be the third time I’ve moved yarn and it’s a lot 🤣
It was a delicious cranberry sour! But I do love a hazy IPA as well

  2. Oh I love everything about the socks you just finished – the yarn, the pattern:)

  3. Lovely socks! And that dragonfly cross stitch is stunning!

  4. Bravo to you for tackling your stash… I need to find the inspiration to do the same here! Your socks are brilliant! I like the “zig zag” pattern very much! The color is brilliant!

  5. Your socks are beautiful! I love the color and the pattern 🙂 And your dragonfly is lovely as well! I know what you mean about needing to weed through stash before a move – good for you taking care of it now 🙂

The socks are joyous! And the cross stitch is gorgeous, I love any excuse to organise and a move is a very exciting one!

  7. Those are fun socks, I love the zigzag pattern and the colour. The cross stitch is stunning. Good luck with your preparations for moving to Seattle, looks like you’ve made a good start on slimming down what you will need to transport across the country.
